The Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association board members voted 9-1 to reinstate Wilson-Henryetta’s baseball team after its coach violated an association rule by pulling his players off the field during a game earlier this month.
The board also voted 8-2 to approve a sevengame suspension for head coach Matt Le-Grand, whose actions violated OSSAA Rule 13-4.
Wilson athletic director Grant Proctor, who addressed the panel on behalf of the school, recommended the penalty for LeGrand.
The team has 14 games remaining on its schedule. Assistant coach Willie Huffman will lead the Tigers in LeGrand’s absence.
LeGrand, a coach with 15 years of experience, told the board he wasn’t aware of the rule prohibiting a coach from removing a team during a game.
LeGrand told board members he pulled his team after a player used inappropriate language within ear shot of an umpire. The umpire told LeGrand he could remove the player, or the player would be ejected.
