A man accused of enabling child abuse in a vaping case is scheduled to appear in court for a pre-preliminary conference at 9 a.m. on April 15.
A $60,000 bond was set for Donte Jordan Smith, 32, at an initial appearance in McIntosh County District Court on March 18 before Associate District Judge Brendon Bridges.
Bridges entered a not guilty plea on behalf of the defendant, who is charged with enabling child abuse and con- spiracy.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the case came to the attention of authorities when an on-line video was posted in January that depicted a toddler on a bed being assisted to vape by its mother, Rachel Lane, of Eufaula.
Lane was arrested on Jan. 30 and charged on Feb. 6 with child abuse and conspiracy. Bond was set at $60,000. Her next court date also is on April 15.
