There is nothing more frustrating to a sports fan than watching players of a team sport look right at a teammate that’s wide open and instead of passing the ball to him they attempt the impossible shot that fails.
Personal goals are not meant to be achieved at the value of your teammate and team. If you don’t want to play team ball, go play golf.
This doesn’t fall 100% on the player but it does the coach. He or she is the person in charge of the program and the outlook of the team. The issue is accountability and responsibility. The coach is responsible for the program and the athlete is held accountable for his actions on the court, gridiron or field of play.
The bottom line is to represent your school with class and if you’re not willing to let teammates be involved in a team sport, then maybe you should take a long look at yourself and take up an individual sport of some sort. Don’t waste the hundreds of hours that teammates have sacrificed to practice in the off-season and in the regular season.
