Eufaula Elementary School Principal Dorothy Moseley is resigning from her position effective at the end of the 2025 school year.
She submitted her resignation letter to the School Board at its monthly meeting Monday, citing as the reason for her departure as family concerns.
Moseley was principal of the Nicoma Park Elementary School near Oklahoma City for 16 years prior to being hired by Eufaula schools in May 2024.
During her brief tenure in Eufaula, she has continued to maintain her full-time residence in Nicoma Park.
She told the board she was not returning to her former position.
“I don’t know what’s next,” Moseley said.
The board accepted her resignation.
“You have been a great asset for us,” Superintendent Monty Guthrie said.
He noted that he understood it was necessary for her to weigh the concerns of the students with those “of yourself and your family. You made that decision, and we honor that.”
He quipped that he will keep working her as hard as possible up to the point of her departure.
Now, the search begins for another elementary school principal.
School bond election April 1 There was some discussion about the Special Election on April 1, when voters are being asked to approve almost $24 million in general obligation bonds.
Guthrie stressed that approval of the bonds would not affect the millage rates on property.
Eufaula has one of the lowest millage rates in the state, at 13.53, compared to North Rock Creek with a millage of 39.22, Purcell, 33.37 and Berryhill at 30.66.
The election won’t affect the rates.
“There is no projected tax increase,” he said.
If approved, the bond money would be used to construct an event center at an estimated cost of $20.4 million; to construct, furnish, equip and/or acquire a classroom addition at the Middle School ($2,040,000) and to acquire and install turf at the football field ($1,530,000).
$188,000 donation available The Oklahoma Public School Resource Center contacted Guthrie about a $188,000 donation from Green Energy Solutions designated to Eufaula schools through OPSRC’s Catalyst Education Fund.
OPSRC is a non-profit funded by major contributors, including the George Kaiser Foundation, Walton Family Foundation and INASMUCH Foundation.
Green Energy Solutions is a Sheridan, Wyoming company that specializes in energy efficiency, renewable energy and thermotechnics.
Green Energy entered into an agreement with Eufaula schools in October 2024 to build a natural gas filling station for the school’s 18 buses and, over time, retrofit the buses to run on natural gas as well as diesel.
It is estimated the conversion will save the district $30,000 a year.
The donation is administered by OPSRC and is available to members, minus a 3 percent administration fee for members and a 6 percent fee for non-members.
Eufaula is not currently a member. Guthrie said the organization will allow the district to join, retroactively, for $2500.
Otherwise, it would have cost $12,000 in administrative fees instead of the $6,000 the fees will cost.
