A driver and her canine companion are lucky to still be alive after crashing through a guardrail and almost ending up in Lake Eufaula over the weekend.
On Saturday, Feb. 1, the F.A.I.C. Fire Department was paged out around 9:39 a.m. to a motor vehicle accident which happened at mile marker 261 on I-40. A driver, who was headed eastbound, departed the road, and crashed through the guardrail.
The vehicle and its occu- pants then rolled down the rock embankment only stopping right before hitting the water.
FAIC responded quickly and stated that fortunately the vehicle stopped just a few inches from the water so the driver was able to extricate herself along with her service dog from the vehicle. Though the driver and dog had no apparent injuries, the driver was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.
Joining FAIC at the scene were Oklahoma Game Wardens, Checotah EMS, Oklahoma Highway Patrol and D’S Wrecker.
