The common goal for any sports team in any sport is to win. However, lately it looks like winning is not the only goal at the upper level. Players are looking to advance their next move.
Coaches have a hard enough time preparing for games, developing athletes and conducting practices. The overreach of what some coaches have to put up with is taxing and unhealthy for the program.
In college, my Coaching Sports professor always said the foundation for any sports team is to develop athletes, teach the fundamentals and put your best players on the field or court depending on the sport but it is vital to have skilled players in reserve and to put them in rotation.
Sports are fun and competitive. That’s why student-athletes partake in representing their schools and colleges. However, the elephant in the room in college sports is the NIL. It has forever changed the arena of college sports. It has become all about the money and not the tradition of the school. Hopefully this will give someone something to think about.
