“Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! So, in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. Matthew 7:9-12.
Jesus has an amazing knack of taking what other people have confused and making it clear. Jesus says that everything the Bible teaches us to treat other people like we would want to be treated. This is the golden rule of life and being a decent human being.
The Bible clearly teaches us that part of sharing the good news of Jesus is living in a way that draws people to faith in Him. We follow Christ’ example of wanting to restore the fallen, help the struggling and show mercy because we have been shown mercy.
In Galatians 6 Paul says this –“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.
Paul warns that God is watching how we live, how we speak and how we love. He also tells us that if we live unkind, self-centered lives that are only concerned for ourselves we will reap heartbreak, loneliness, and disaster.
Jesus wants us to live like Him. Loving people, serving them and showing the power of God in being decent human beings.
