Robert Lee Vermillion, 79, of Checotah, Oklahoma, peacefully passed away at home on Nov. 27, 2024. Born on Jan. 12, 1945, in McAlester, Oklahoma, he was the beloved son of Austin and Oma Jaqueline (Shaver) Vermillion.
Robert enlisted in the United States Army, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. His bravery and dedication were hallmarks of his character.
Robert married Deborah Lynn Welch on Feb. 12, 1982, in Sherman, Texas. Together, they shared 42 years filled with love and cherished memories.
He is lovingly survived by his wife Deborah, daughters Sara Hance and her husband Gene of Scipio, and Sally Whitley of Eufaula. He is also mourned by his brothers Louis Vermillion and his wife Betty of Lake Jackson, Texas; Roger Vermillion of Krebs, Oklahoma; and James Vermillion and his wife Kathy, also of Krebs.
His sisters, Alene McLellan of McAlester and Kay Soden and her husband Rodney, of McAlester, will hold him in their hearts.
Robert took great pride in his family, which includes grandchildren Kady Anderson and her husband Austin of Eufaula, Cody Whitley of Eufaula, and great-granddaughter Josey Mar of Eufaula.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Austin and Oma Vermillion, as well as his brothers, Boyd and infant Austin.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Hunn, Black & Merritt Funeral Home & Crematory.
