Broken Arrow High School announced a change in leadership in the football program, moving on from Josh Blankenship after four seasons as Blankenship resigned from the position.
Blankenship led the Tigers to a 20-26 record. This past year, Broken Arrow went 4-7 and lost to Deer Creek in the first round of the Class 6A-I playoffs.
Blankenship is the son of legendary coach Bill Blankenship, who coached at the University of Tulsa and won five combined titles at Tulsa Union and Owasso before retiring after last season.
A former quarterback, Josh Blankenship played at Tulsa Union before spending three seasons at Tulsa. He transferred to Eastern Washington and was named the Big Sky Conference Offensive Player of the Year.
Broken Arrow, the largest school in Oklahoma, has only one football state championship in its history. The Tigers’ lone title came in 2018 under former head coach David Alexander, when the team went undefeated.
The Broken Arrow coaching job is expected to attract significant interest, though the program has faced challenges, including talented players transferring to other schools.
