James Anthony Smith passed away peacefully at home on Nov. 12, 2024, at the age of 72. He was born on Oct. 6, 1952, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
He was raised in Eufaula, Oklahoma. He attended Eufaula High School where he played basketball then graduated in the class of 1970.
He then attended OSU Tech, studying Data Processing and acquiring his Associate of Science degree.
He was also drafted by the U.S. Army where he served as a Computer Analyst at the Pentagon in Washington D.C.
He then returned to Oklahoma where he attended Wesleyan University acquiring his B.S.
Jim worked for Citgo Petroleum and the Claremore Indian Hospital before retiring.
He was a very proud citizen of the Muscogee Creek Nation.
Jim had an extended music family and he enjoyed going to festivals and various other gatherings. One of his favorites was the Oklahoma Bluegrass Festival in Guthrie, Oklahoma.
Jim will be seriously missed by family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Purna Smith; his son, Dylan Smith; brothers, Mike Smith and Richard Dabbs; stepson, Jimmy Russel; stepdaughter, Jennifer Russel; along with niece, Nicole Pendley; nephew, Anthony Dabbs; and a host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Emma Lola Smith, and his brother, Lynn Dabbs.
Visitation was held on Thursday, Nov. 21 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Butler Stumpffs and Dyer Funeral Home, 2103 E. 3rd St., Tulsa, Oklahoma.
A Celebration of Life was held Saturday, Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. followed by Military Honors at 3 p.m. at 1300 Luker Lane, Sapulpa, Oklahoma.
