When you think about the wrestling programs of the past for Eufaula High School, you automatically think of Tommy Casey. Casey was dominant on the wrestling mat, earning himself a collegiate scholarship.
Casey was a 1978 All State in wrestling, football and All-Conference.
Casey wrestled in college for Northern Oklahoma in Tonkawa, after that he returned to Eufaula and worked with their wrestling teams and after that he was involved with coaching little league and was an assistant coach in Tecumseh, Shawnee and Oklahoma City.
Casey was head coach of a little league football team for 3 years in the Tri City Little league. Casey played his last semi-pro football game for the Dub Richardson Mustangs in OKC. He had a successful career in real estate.
Casey was always proud of being a Eufaula Ironhead and attended football games every time he got the chance.
“Tommy was a great wrestler. You’re talking about one of the toughest and strongest athletes that I ever coached. He worked hard everyday and was eager to learn. I was proud that he went on to be a coach because his passion for the sport of wrestling and football was tremendous. Tommy Casey will always be remembered as one of Eufaula’s best wrestlers ever,” former Eufaula head wrestling coach Larry Newton Sr. said.
Casey came from a wrestling family where his little brothers Harris and David Casey each earned a scholarship to the University of Oklahoma after their careers at McAlester High School.
