Eufaula city offices were closed Monday out of respect for the Nov. 11 Veterans Day Holiday. The City Council meeting, normally held on the first Monday of each month, was postponed until the following day, Nov. 12.
Due to the Indian Journal’s print deadline, the coverage of this week’s meeting will appear in the Nov. 21 issue.
There was one major issue scheduled for this week’s meeting: street improvements and how to pay for them.
The discussion was to center on street improvement priorities, planning, and funding.
The agenda item reads: “Consideration of Acceptance, Approval, Adoption, Rejection, Amendment, and/ or Postponement directing the City Manager and City Attorney to draft a Street Improvement Funding Election Resolution for funding Street Improvements via: a. Street Improvement Sales Tax; b. Street Improvement General Obligation Bond.”
A recent study performed by the Eastern Oklahoma Development District for the city states that a total of 7.4 miles of city streets, totaling 38,987 feet, are being considered for the project. These are streets, or portions of streets that fit one of two categories of need – mandatory or essential.
Cost of the project is estimated at $4,288,572 or $110 per foot or $580,800 per mile.
