As mentioned last week in my article we received more rain, unfortunately, it wasn’t in moderation.
According to Mesonet, in the seven-day period between Oct. 30 to Nov. 5 we received 7.80 inches of rain. This lowered the dust problem but created others such as fallen trees, wash outs, clogged tinhorns, and other drainage issues that we continue to address.
Due to excessive rainfall sometimes, it is hard to explain to property owners that water runs downhill and it is difficult to control all of the runoff, especially during an event like we experienced two weeks ago.
Some of the drainage issues cannot be permanently fixed and the problem is corrected as soon as possible when discovered. It is not a pleasant or popular subject, but if a piece of property is on a downhill grade, below the roadbed, or in a low area, water is going to take the path of least resistance.
Unfortunately, when most of the subdivisions were developed within District 2, drainage was not taken into consideration. We ask that everyone understand we cannot permanently fix all drainage issues, but let us know when a fixable problem arises and we will address the issue as soon as possible.
During the week of Nov. 10 we will continue to replace rusted out tinhorns and install two new ones for property owners. We request all property owners to contact us before building a driveway so we can look at the area and recommend what size of tinhorn is needed. The proper size of tinhorn will alleviate possible problems.
In conclusion we here in McIntosh County District 2 want to thank all of the military active duty and veterans for their service.
