The Oklahoma Sooners finally earned a victory with a 59-14 shellacking of the Maine Black Bears. Maine came out swinging and took an early 7-0 lead on their first offensive possession. After that was the Jovantae Barnes show. The junior running back Jovantae Barnes finished with career highs of 203 rushing yards and three rushing TDs. He averaged 11.3 yards on his 18 carries.
OU finished with 665 yards of offense and averaged 8.5 yards per play. Its 381 rushing yards were the program’s most since the Cotton Bowl against Florida to close the 2020 season. The Sooners averaged 7.3 yards per carry today.
Redshirt senior wide receiver J.J. Hester caught four passes for a career-high 112 yards and a touchdown. His 90-yard touchdown reception was the longest catch by a Sooner since 1995 and the longest by an OU player in the 100-year history of Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
OU quarterback Jackson Arnold went 15-of-21 for 224 yards and two touchdowns.
OU will travel to Columbus next Saturday to square off against the Missouri Tigers in their next SEC game.
