We finally received some rain last week so we can get the graders out and smooth our gravel roads. We have not graded for a couple of weeks due to how dry it has been – if we had bladed our gravel roads it would have caused the dust problem to be worse than normal.
We continue to replace rusted out failing metal tinhorns, mow the right of ways, pick-up trash from the roadways, and repair the existing roads.
In an effort to replace the 27 subdivision’s dilapidated chip and seal roads, bids have been awarded to overlay approximately 3.3 miles of roads at a cost of around $425,000. Construction of these projects should begin in a couple of weeks.
Replacing/overlaying all of these roads will take years because of the cost and time it will take to acquire the funds.
The courthouse construction continues moving forward and the new addition is looking like an office building. The second and third floor have been painted, tile is being put in the restrooms, and the ceilings are being installed.
The projected completion date of the new portion is the first week of December and then the remodel of the old portion will begin. The plan is to move the offices from each floor to the new portion one at a time starting with the first floor then upward.
After the building is completed the parking lots and grounds will also get a facelift. The courthouse is truly going to be a place the Mc-Intosh County residents can be proud of.
