MONTY GRIDER
The two 36- inch by 40-foot tin horn replacements on S 4170 were completed without issue on Oct. 2. We want to thank the community for their patience and cooperation regarding this much-needed project.
The two tin horns that were replaced were corrugated metal with the bottoms rusting out. The two new sections are made of polyethylene and will last for many years. Again, thank you to the adjacent land owner, T Max Nelson, for allowing us to build a bypass so that the folks living south of the construction site could go on with their day-to-day business.
We are preparing for a turnkey project being paid for by the development company of Patriot Pointe (Waterfront Group). This approximately $800,000 paving project is scheduled to begin on Oct. 22 and will include: S 4218 onto S 4214 through Bar Harbor, down to the Patriot Pointe phase III gate, paving +/- 1.8 miles.
This very generous donation will, in the long run, save McIntosh County thousands of dollars from maintenance such as grading and adding base to the gravel roads.
Along with the Patriot Pointe project, there are bids out for an additional +/- 3.3 miles of overlay that will be opened and reviewed in the Board of County Commissioners meeting on October 14th, 2024. If there are bids awarded, the awarded bidder should start their project around the same times as the Patriot Pointe project. We are very excited about the possibility of overlaying three roads and building a new hard surface road in District 2.
With these four new projects we, District 2, will have surfaced or resurfaced approximately 10 Vi miles, not including Dam Road, in the last four years.
The resurfacing of the numerous other dilapidated chip and seal roads is going to take time, persistence, and a lot of money to get done.
Thank you, Monty Grider County Commissioner District 2
