The Checotah Lady Wildcats saw their season come to an end on Thursday at North Rock Creek in the Regional Tournament as Berryhill topped Checotah 11-1. The 2024 season was a great year for Checotah as they finished with an impressive 25-13 overall record. Even though their post-season play wasn’t what head coach Levi Walker wanted, Walker was still happy about his team’s effort overall.
“I’m just super proud of the team and my assistants. It’s been a long time since Checotah has won 25 and set themselves up to compete in a Regional. Everyone wants a Cinderella story; we just came up a little short of that. This team played well at times and down at times. Even in the down moments I don’t remember a time in a game where I felt like we couldn’t win. They just kept showing up, and that says a lot about this team. Moving forward there will be some positions to fill and a few things will be tweaked in order to get the most out of each player. With a big returning group the bar will be set high,” Checotah head coach Levi Walker said.
Even though Checotah went 0-3 in regional action the future is bright. Seniors Hailey Prince, Sidney Hamil-ton and Makyah Black had done a wonderful job of senior leadership and grooming a talented group of underclassmen. Shaelynn Casey will take over pitching and Walker has a stable of great hitters in Kora Hall, Layna Vandiver, Sydnie West, Aurora Madewell, Shyanne Madewell, Lexi Miller, Addie Britt, Tylie Moody, Zoey Patterson, Scarlett Penaa, Michelle Talbolt, Kenadee Jones, Izzabella Ruiter and a great catcher in Kami Hamm who can hit the long ball.
