Yes, as a Christian we should still obey the 10 commandments. We obey them because we have been saved by the grace of a loving Savior. We obey God as our response to his gift of Jesus. We don’t obey out of fear, but out of love. The motivation of the Believer is to honor God in everything they do and everything they say.
However, obeying the 10 commandments does not make you a Christian. Only Jesus can save you – the law condemns, but Christ redeems.
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.” Matthew 5:17 Jesus teaches us that He is the fulfillment of the law – now the righteous live by faith. We are free of the bondage of the law – now we obey God because we love Him.
The Bible warns us not to take grace for granted and to live a life that is worthy of Jesus. Ephesians 4:1 – “As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.”
