The courthouse addition and remodel are moving forward again after a short delay. The masonry work on the new portion of the courthouse should be completed by September 30, and then the cleaning and masonry restoration will begin.
The interior portion of the new section is progressing with sheetrock being put in place, the electricians wiring, tile being set in the restrooms, and the heat and air folks installing the ductwork.
We are anticipating the new addition being complete by the end of November 2024 or the first part of December. When the addition is completed, the offices on the first floor will temporarily move into the new portion of the courthouse and the remodel will start. This move will not affect the County Election Board office in any way prior to or during the General Election. The plan for the remodel is after the first floor is finished, moving up to the second and then the third floors.
The Construction Manager is working on a new completion timeline and will give us an update during the next facilities meeting. I will continue providing updates as they become available.
During the Sept. 13 McIntosh County Board of County Commissioners meeting a resolution was passed that prohibits placing or building speed bumps on county- maintained roads without written authorization.
This action was taken because there have been incidents of speed bumps being constructed by piling up soil or gravel creating a high place across the roadway, and there also have been a couple occasions of manufactured speed bumps having been purchased and placed on a county road. This practice could cause vehicle damage and possible injury to someone.
This Resolution is enforceable by local law enforcement and is outlined in State Statute Title 69, Roads, Bridges, and Ferries. This is under Article 12 Sections 1 – 213 “Obstructing or Damaging Roads – Defacing, Damaging, Destroying or Removing any Traffic Control Device, Road Sign, Signboard, Guide Sign or Sign Post – Felony Penalties”.
Due to this new Resolution, we are requesting that if any of the above behavior is observed please collect as much information as possible and contact the McIntosh County Sheriff ’s office.
