Recently two Checotah High School students won the McIntosh County Cattlemen’s Association performance beef contest.
Jade McPeak, a sophomore at CHS, won Grand Champion with her steer that she raised for the beef performance program. She also won the On the Hoof presentation and the Rate of Game competition. McPeak is currently serving as the Oklahoma Junior Shorthand Board as the OJSA’s Public Relations/Media Director and has served for four years on the Junior Board.
Karlee Glover, a senior at CHS, won the Reserve Grand Champion with the steer that she raised. She also won the carcass portion of the competition. This program highlights the importance of the visual quality, rate of gain and carcass quality in the production of market steers.
