The Oklahoma Tax Commission recently released city sales tax collection figures that primarily represents local tax receipts from July business. The monies they reported this period represent sales from July 16 to 31 and estimated sales from Aug. 1 to 15.
Statewide, the disbursement of $203,259,579 in sales tax collections returned to the cities and towns reflected a decrease of $2,672,355 from the $200,587,224 distributed to the cities and towns in September last year. The use tax disbursement to cities and towns was $36,692,373 according to the Oklahoma Tax Commission.
In county returns, the counties shared in a $34,191,508 sales tax disbursement and a $7,530,858 use tax disbursement.
The chart below compares city sales taxes and taxable sales in area cities, towns and counties as well as a comparison for the same period in 2023. Taxable Sales are calculated by dividing the tax collected by the tax rate and it shows a rough estimate of retail sales activity.
