The Eufaula Lady Ironheads improved to 20-2 on the season after shutting out the Morris Eagles 8-0 Thursday, at Chris Gawf Field in Eufaula. The bats were hot for the Lady Ironheads as they tallied 11 hits in the contest. Senior Kadie Tidwell smashed a pitch for a single that scored a run in the second inning.
Eufaula found their stride in the third inning as they scored three runs to take a 4-0 lead. It started with Hannah Needham getting on base followed by senior Maddie Ballard who hit a home run to center field, scoring a pair of runs.
Freshman pitcher Leah Green earned the victory from the pitcher’s circle as she allowed three hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out six and walking three.
Fire Clark took the loss for Morris. Clark went five innings, giving up eight runs on 11 hits, striking out one and walking four.
Rayleigh Peterson led Eufaula at the plate going 3-for-4 with an RBI, Ballard went 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs, Tidwell went 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs, Hannah Needham 1-for-2 and Emma Lovett 2-for-4.
“It was a good game for us. The team played great defense and swung the bat with enthusiasm. It was a total team victory. I’m very proud of them. Morris is a good team and we managed to play our type of softball. It’s just a good day for Eufaula,” Eufaula head coach Ryan Green said.
Alli Guynes, Paige Hall and Fire Clark each collected one hit for Morris.
