The Checotah Wildcats grappled offensively in Friday’s scrimmage at Perry F. Lattimore Stadium against the Sallisaw Black Diamonds and the Gore Pirates. The Wildcats came close to scoring an offensive touchdown in varsity and junior varsity action and made improvement in finding their stride.
The Wildcats played multiple quarterbacks in Elijah Thomas, Cole Rolland, Eli Patterson and Dalton Carter. The offense had some great drives downfield by No.28 Kaydn Morrison and others only to see the drive stall.
The Sallisaw defense was quick and aggressive and forced the Wildcats to throw the football before the receiver was set.
The Checotah defensive line put pressure on Gore’s backfield and made several tackles for a loss. The linebacker corp of the Wildcats looked impressive as they made great hits and punishing tackles. The secondary had a good day as they played a solid game.
Jayden Casey, Elijah Thomas and Hudson Pollard looked sharp when on the field.
This Checotah football staff has another week to prepare for next week’s start of the season. The Wildcats made it to the playoffs and head coach Zac Ross will have his team focused and ready to compete at a high level.
The Wildcats kick off the season this Friday, August 30 as they travel to Okmulgee to play the Okmulgee Bulldogs with a 7 p.m. start.
