The Eufaula Ironheads looked sharp in their scrimmage against the Morris Eagles. Eufaula running back Peter Lee was dominant against the Eagles’ defense. He had several big runs, breaking tackles and powering his way down field. Quarterback Ledger Folsom also had a good game. The junior quarterback threw multiple times to his many targets for huge gains that moved the chains.
The biggest takeaways from the scrimmage are two parts. First, the Eufaula offensive line has drastically improved. They protected Folsom and gave him plenty of time to make his reads. They opened huge gaps for Lee and the other running backs to run through.
Secondly, the defense was fast and physical. The Ironheads swarmed the Morris quarterback, sacked him several times and made numerous tackles in the backfield for no gain. Dresden Chiles made an interception, Aaron Spoehr and Bryan Lynn were fast and physical from their linebacker positions.
Maddox Bridges made a couple of big plays and was doubled teamed a lot on long routes.
Carson Luna, Connor McAllister, Trevor Dodd, Day Day Shine and Braeden Blevins proved that they should start as they dominated the Morris Eagles on both sides of the football.
“I saw a lot of good things tonight and saw a lot of things we need to work on. I thought we protected the quarterback fairly well and we could run the ball. We have to work getting open and blocking when we’re backed up. This gives our staff something to compare to and improve on. I’m excited about the season and our potential,” Eufaula head coach Larry Newton said.
Overall, the Ironheads were superior over Morris. Next week, Eufaula will travel to Warner for their last scrimmage before playing Vian in the season opener.
