WILBURTON – Eastern Oklahoma State College head softball coach Kendra Whisenhunt has been named the new athletic director for the Mountaineers. Nathan Bean, formerly the assistant men’s basketball coach at Williams Baptist University, will take over as the new women’s basketball head coach.
“I am proud that Coach Whisenhunt will be stepping into the role of athletic director,” said Dr. Janet Wansick, president of Eastern. “Coach Whisenhunt has been a dedicated member of the Eastern coaching staff for many years, consistently demonstrating a commitment to her players and the overall success of our student-athletes. Her commitment and vision make her a good choice for this role, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact she will have on our athletic program.”
Whisenhunt has led the Eastern softball team for 10 years and is coming off two of the most successful seasons in program history. She will become the first female athletic director in Eastern history.
“I would like to thank Dr. Wansick for entrusting me with the opportunity to lead the athletic department,” Whisenhunt said. “I have had the privilege of working with some of the best athletic directors here at Eastern and I am grateful to both Matt Parker and Al Davis for their guidance. I am excited to continue to work with our coaches and student-athletes within the program, while growing relationships throughout the community and campus.”
Bean takes the helm of the Lady Mountaineer basketball team after a successful stint at WBU. A native of Centerville, Arkansas, Bean graduated from Central Baptist College with a bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies and from Concordia University Irvine with a master’s degree in athletic administration.
“I want to thank Dr. Wansick and the administration for the opportunity to lead the women’s basketball program at EOSC,” Bean said. “My family and I are extremely excited to join the Eastern and Wilburton Community.”
