Newly hired Porum principal and football coach Brandon Turley got a huge surprise when he was hired in late May. Porum lacked enough players to form an eight-man football team that forced Porum to abandon any hope of having a football team in the 2024 season.
A few players transferred out due to the new transfer rule that allows students to transfer anywhere they want for one time. At the end of May Turley only had six players left to play.
“The reason we made this decision is the fact that if we make it now, it could give us a chance to apply and potentially play fall baseball, which would give our seniors a chance to play fall ball and not miss out on playing a sport,” Turley said.
Rules state that eight-man football teams need to have at least 15-16 players to have any depth should injuries play a part.
