August 2 is the last day to apply for voter registration in order to be eligible to vote in the August 27 Runoff Primary Election. Persons who are United States Citizens, residents of Oklahoma, and at least 17 ½ years old are eligible to apply for voter registration. However, you must be at least 18 years old to vote.
Applications must be received by the County Election Board or postmarked no later than midnight, August 2. Applications postmarked after that time will be accepted, but will not be processed until after the August 27 Election. Applications may also be submitted to any motor vehicle agency that is also an official voter registration agency by the submission deadline.
Applicants will be notified in writing when their application has been processed. Approved voters will receive a Voter Identification Card in the mail. Some may receive a letter that explains the reason or reasons the application was not approved. Those who do not receive a response within 30 days of submitting their application should contact the County Election Board office immediately.
Registered voters who have moved to McIntosh County from a different county or state will need to complete a new Voter Registration Application in order to be eligible for elections in McIntosh County. If you have moved within the county and need to update your address, you may make changes online using the OK Voter Portal at oklahoma. gov/elections/ovp or complete a Voter Registration Application.
Voter Registration Applications can be downloaded from the State Election Board website at oklahoma. gov/elections. You may also complete a form at your County Election Board. Most post offices, tag agencies, and public libraries have applications available upon request.
HOW PRIMARIES WORK A primary election is held if more than one candidate from the same recognized political party files for a single office. (The Primary was held June 18). Candidates who receive the majority of the votes cast for their office in their respective party’s primary election will advance to the general election. If more than two candidates file, and no candidate receives a majority of the votes, the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes will advance to the runoff primary election.
If candidates from only one recognized political party file for an office, the elected official will be chosen during the primary election or runoff primary election. (Primary election laws apply.) A general election will not be held. More information about primary elections can be found on the State Election Board website at https://oklahoma.gov/ elections.html.
The only race on the ballot for the August 27 Runoff Primary Election is for County Commissioner District #2. To be eligible to vote in the election, voters must be registered in the Republican party with a residence address within the boundaries of County Commissioner District #2. The Voter Identification Card issued by the County Election Board displays the districts in which the voter is registered. Voters can also review their information and view sample ballots by using the Voter Portal at oklahoma.gov/elections/ ovp.
Other significant deadlines related to the Runoff Primary Election: August 12 is the last day to request an application for absentee ballot by mail; early voting will be held at the courthouse from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, August 22 and Friday, August 23 and on Saturday, August 24 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
