Camp Robinson, Neb., May 6 – The surrender of Crazy Horse took place at this place yesterday The whole affair passed off very quietly The band numbers nearly 1,300 sent under Crazy Horse, Little Hawk, He Dog and Little Big Man. Crazy Horse said he was making this peace to last. The ponies he surrendered are estimated to number 2,500.
Appraising Indian Lands Col. E. H. Topping and Hon. Ed Smith, of Miami county, and Hon. T.R Connard, of Lincoln county, Nebraska, commissioners appointed by the Secretary of the Interior to appraise 50 miles square of the Indian Territory, in pursuance of the treaty of 1866 made with the Cherokee Indians, arrived at Wichita last Friday and proceeded at once to outfit for the work assigned to them.
They had a cook, teamster and secretary. The work will take about four months, for which each commissioner gets eight dollars per day and expenses.
