For over a decade Oklahoma’s longest uninterrupted high school football game (1915) will no longer be played early in the season. Normally the Checotah Wildcats versus the Eufaula Ironheads football game is scheduled the third week of the season. However, this season marks a different path for both teams.
Both teams will be competing in the same conference with Eufaula moving up to Class 3A from 2A-6 last season. This year (2024) Checotah will host Eufaula November 8th to close out the regular season schedule. This may be an adjustment for some but coaches from both schools like the idea of a later game because it gives the teams time to gel as they have more games under their belts.
Checotah defeated Eufaula last year 54-27 and regained the number of wins over their archrival. In 107 games played Checotah has won 53 to Eufaulas 53 and includes one tie.
Ledger Folsom Folsom will return as quarterback for the Ironheads while OU commit Elijah Thomas will lead the Wildcats. Some major voids will need to be filled after Checotah loses their starting quarterback Jacob Jones to graduation and the Ironheads loses two great defensive players in Draven Gragg and Rashon Watts to graduation.
One thing for sure is that both head coaches will be extra motivated for this game.
Kickoff November 8, 2024 at Ray Grandstaff stadium in Checotah at 7 p.m.
