Will the Committee on Indian Affairs and the Territorial Committee give us a little at a time. We are not prepared to take it all at once. We know our people will object to so radical a change as is proposed in your report. If you are really in earnest, and really honest in your intentions, and wish the Indian Territory “sealed” another “Sister” in your august family, we will suggest a different approach to the coy Indian Maiden If you deem us capable of being transposed at once, by a congressional enactment into fullfledged citizens of the United States, you must surly and logically concede that we are prepared for what we are about to ask.
We are naturally suspicious of the intentions of white men who are overanxious to change our condition – (perhaps you know the reason) and desire a simple proof of the honesty of your intentions.
May 1, 1877 Mr. Editor – I have just looked over the last issue of your paper. It is a number of unusual interest. I believe The Indian Journal grows better as it grows older.
