An entertaining experience was had by all at the FLEAS monthly meeting in May. Our hostesses were Gayle Cooke, Gwyn Sylvester, Cheryl Tanner and Reba Thompson. They did a great job decorating and preparing for a larger attendance than normal. The door prizes were gift certificates to Brahms. Yum! Thank you, ladies, for such a special job!
Our guest speaker was Lori Fullbright, the well-known crime journalist for the Tulsa Channel 6 news.
Lori makes special trips to other countries when she hears of good deeds being performed by Oklahomans. She then presents a special report to be aired. She shared some of those experiences with us.
Just a few examples are Bosnia where they came under heavy gunfire, London where they shared the differences in law enforcement procedures, Iraq where the civilians appeared to be so grateful for the help of the US.
Lori was frequently impressed with the kindness and gentleness of our Oklahoma soldiers.
Lori shared some amusing anecdotes of technical difficulties during broadcasts and much more. As usual, Lori did not disappoint!
Yearly, FLEAS chooses a senior who is getting education beyond high school to receive the Irene Van Zandt scholarship for $2000. This year, we chose Marcela Wilmoth from Checotah High School. She is attending Austin College with dreams of a future in international law. Marcela attended our meeting and gave a short presentation. She is intelligent and delightful. We wish her the very best!
