Impressed with Cunningham Construction’s work
The Eufaula City Council held its first monthly meeting Monday in its newly renovated city hall at 64 Memorial Drive.
On the agenda was a proposal to sell the building at 25 Hospital Drive, which had been used as a temporary city hall since the historic building on Memorial Drive had to be closed because of black mold and other issues.
The city bought the building on Hospital Drive for more than $300,000. City Manager Jeb Jones was confident the city could get that or more.
The council approved putting the site on the market.
Members of the council were pleased with the renovation and praised the work of Cunningham Construction.
The cost of the proj-ect was $1 million.
At Monday’s meeting the council approved the final payment of $44,250 to Cunningham.
In other business, the council approved renewing the annual lease of the city-owned building at 25 Hospital Rd.
The city leases the building to the Department of Human Services for $3,430 per year. DHS moved out of the building two years ago and sublet it to Work Ready Oklahoma, an employment service.
When the issue first came up at the last council meeting some council members wondered if DHS was making a profit on the building by subletting it to the employment service and postponed a decision until this week’s meeting.
Jones said he contacted DHS and learned the agency does not charge Work Ready rent.
The council agreed to the lease, which is effective from July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025.
