The Eufaula School Board, at a Tuesday, May 14 meeting, hired Dorothy Moseley as elementary school principal, replacing Kristel Hickman who resigned to take a position as superintendent of Crowder High School.
Moseley was principal at the Nicoma Park Elementary for 15 years prior to accepting the Eufaula position.
Nicoma Park Elementary is in the Choctaw-Nicoma Park School District, located about 12 miles east of downtown Oklahoma City.
According to a school profile it is “the 19th largest school district in the state with enrollment of 5,800 students on eight campuses.”
The board made a number of other hirings during the session, including a high school history teacher, two high school ag teachers, two middle school history/ geography teachers and two members of the child nutrition staff.
The board also accepted a number of resignations, including long-time history teacher Roger Thompson, high school math teacher Kirsti Young, high school girls’ basketball coach and middle school history teacher Nick Yarbrough, high school science teacher Bree Nelson, middle school history teacher Stacey Helms, middle school science teacher Stephanie Fox and elementary cafeteria worker Jane Prikryl.
In other business, the board approved allowing Carlton Landing Academy to share the services of Eufaula Superintendent Monty Guthrie.
The Academy is a charter school at Carlton Landing, 10 miles southeast of Eufaula in Pittsburg County.
At a board meeting two months ago, Crystal Conner, president of the Academy’s school board, made a request to engage Guthrie on a part-time basis.
She said her school’s Headmaster, the term they use for superintendent, is leaving at the end of this school year and they need a viable alternative.
She said the situation would not be a burden on Guthrie, requiring only a few hours each week.
Guthrie won’t be expected to be at the school on a daily basis.
The Academy has an enrolment of 54 students and a faculty of 11 – 12.
