Lake Country Manager Shanna Streets-Covey last week presented a check for $2,532.42 to Kim Woodroof, director of the Homeless Outreach Program of Eufaula (H.O.P.E.).
The money is the amount left over after expenses for the third annual 5K Green Run presented by Lake Country Fitness and Nutrition.
“We’re really happy we are able to help H.O.P.E. I know how much it means to Kim and Brenda (McMahan),” Shanna said. “They’ve been working so hard to do this.”
H.O.P.E. was created to help people who are on the edge of disaster and only need a little financial support to see them through the tough time.
“H.O.P.E. helps people that other programs don’t help,” Woodruff said. “We try to pick up little things – someone might need a little help to pay off an electric bill or some gas to see a husband in the hospital or maybe a battery for; their car or they can’t get to work.”
Woodruff shared a note she received recently from someone: “It is truly inspiring to see how a collective effort can make such a difference in the lives of those in need.”
Shanna said that when Lake Country took over the Green Run, they decided each year they would select a different organization to assist with any money left over from the event.
“We didn’t do this to make a profit,” she said. “We want to be able to provide for the community.”
She noted that putting on the run is very expensive, and it would not be possible without all of the sponsors who contributed to the success.
“The amount of sponsors we had was incredible,” she said.
