IMPEACHMENT TRIAL
The proceedings of the impeachment trial of Locher Harjo, principal chief of the Muskogee Nation for high crimes and misdemeanors was conducted in the House of Warriors.
LAWS OF THE MUSKOKE NATION
Be it enacted by the National Council of the Muskoke Nation, that there and is hereby created a special committee consisting of the second chief, the president of the house of kings, and speaker of the house of warriors, who shall be authorized to contract with the managing board of the Baptist Association for the establishment of a Manual Labor School in the Creek nation, and report the same to the present session of the Council for action.
Labor School Funding Approved
Be it enacted by the National Council of the Muskoke Nation that the sum of $5,450 be and the same is hereby appropriated out of the school fund for the support of the Tullahassee Manual Labor School, for the year commencing Nov. 15,1876, and ending Nov. 15, 1877. Said sum to be paid quarterly to the superintendent of said school.

ATTORNEY DEAD
South McAlester, June 30 – William Costigan, one of the best known members of the bar here, also city attorney, was fund dying at his home at noon today. He had taken laudanum for medical purposes getting an overdose. He expired with an hour.
MOB AFTER MURDERER
There Will Probably Be a Lynching Bee If Caught Welch, I.T., June 30 – A courier brings news that a mob hold surrounded a young farmer, who is charged with murdering Cynthia Johnson, an aged woman at her home near Kinniston, Sunday by beating her brains out with a club.
Her daughter returned home from church and found her body half eaten by hogs.
Robbery was the motive of the crime. Lynching with torture is the avowed intention of the mob. The courier expected the fugitive to be captured by noon.
OKLAHOMA IS GETTING RICH
Guthrie, Ok., June 30 – Incomplete returns in the office of the territorial secretary show that Oklahoma’s taxable wealth this year will aggregate not less than $80 million, as against $72.7 million last year.
Railroad property increased from six million to eight million dollars, while telegraphy property increased 25 percent and telephone property 33 1/8 percent.

FARMERS-MERCHANTS BANK WILL OPEN SATURDAY The Farmers and Merchants Bank of Eufaula will open their doors for business Saturday morning, March 29, in the building formerly occupied by the Oklahoma State Bank.
The new institution has taken over both the First National and Oklahoma State banks of this city and will begin business with a $50,000 capital and $10,000 surplus, with a deposit of one half million dollars, which will make it one of the strongest financial institutions in this section of the state
FORCED TO LAND, PILOT PINNED UNDER PLANE
Lt. C. McMullen, one of Uncle Sam’s air aces, narrowly escaped death early Sunday afternoon when his plane crashed a few miles out of Checotah, south of Muskogee.
McMullen, who was alone, sustained only scratches and bruises. He had but a few minutes before taken off from the Hatbox flying field here destined for Brook Field, San Antonio, Texas.
His plane was hurled on its back when he attempted to make a forced landing in a field at Onapa, McIntosh county. It was virtually demolished.
EUFAULA SCHOOLS RECOGNIZED AMONG THE BEST IN STATE Supt. R.J. Mullins has received a telegram from the meeting at Chicago of the officials of the North Central association of Secondary Schools and Colleges, stating that Eufaula high school had been voted unqualified membership in the association.
This is a decided step forward for the school as it places it in the classification with the best high schools of the state as well as the north central state

LT. RUSHING WITH AMPHIBIOUS FORCES Lt. J. Rushing, Eufaula boy, is now an integral members of the Amphibious forces of the United Staes Navy.
At the completion of his preliminary LST training at the Amphibious Training Base, Camp Bradford, NOB Norfolk, Va., Lt. Rushing has been assigned to the crew of an LST for active duty.
MAX SILVERMAN MADE STAFF SERGEANT
Max Silverman, head of the Silverman Department store in Eufaula, who has been with the U.S. Army, stationed at Camp Stoneman, California for the past two year, has been promoted to staff sergeant, according to news reaching Eufaula this week.
HANNA BOY STUDENT CHIEF PETTY OFFICER
D.S. Chrisholm, Hanna student in the University of Oklahoma’s navy V-12 unit, has been named student chief petty officer the house formerly occupied by the Sigma Nu fraternity, Lt. Com. C.J. Fan Ardall, executive officer has announced.
Navy men on the campus attend regular classes and take part in many extra-curricular activities in addition to their navy training. They live in new barracks or former fraternity houses and student officers are named each semester to head the vari-

It’s something new in entertainment, says Coach Jim Crabtree, explaining “we think the girls will enjoy it and we know the boys will like the idea and want to come back.”
Glover Reburial Rites Are Held At Mellette Wednesday Reburial rites for J.G. Glover, World War II hero, were held Wednesday afternoon at Burns Chapel west of Eufaula.
Glover was born July 20, 1921, at Indianola. He was killed in action August 11,1944.

Bitter Weather Greets New Year
Bitter wintry blasts wedged their way into Oklahoma as the New Year started in Oklahoma, the mercury skidding to zero on two different occasions teh past week.
Government To Take Four Acres of Cemetery The U.S. engineer’s office in Tulsa have asked for a picture of the Eufaula cemetery tract in order to mark off an area approximately 491 feet extending into the cemetery to be taken for Eufaula lake purposes. The tract, about four acres, is in the southeast part of the cemetery, and triangular shaped, with a point of the triangle pointed west into the cemetery.
