On June 17, 2021, a historic building at the corner of Foley Ave. and Main Street collapsed, raining down bricks and mortar and making the walls of adjacent buildings tremble and in danger of collapse.
Though badly shaken and severely damaged, the adjacent Indian Journal building withstood the disaster and survived – but not without structural issues.
After almost three years, mostly due to dealing with insurance companies and engineers, the office has made a temporary move to 100 2nd Street.
The new office is located west of the courthouse in a one-story brick building that houses two offices. The IJ is at the north end of the building. Shearwood Family Chiropractic is on the south end.
We will be here until the old office has been renovated and is completely safe.
“Our building woes have been going on longer than anticipated and we are happy to have found a place to land until the building’s issues are resolved,” Jeff Mayo, publisher, said. “Our staff have been great working through this issue and moving a newspaper office is no small task. Our morgue has more than 50 years of newspapers in it and preserving that history while continuing to record it just adds to the challenge.”
