The 2023-24 NCAA women’s and men’s basketball season came to a close Monday night with UConn winning its second consecutive national championship. The entire season was up with multiple teams ranking No.1 . When it came down to it, it was the teams with a big man that made the championship game. UConn’s Donovan Clingan (7’2”) and Purdue’s Zach Edey (7’4”) battled it out in one of the most exciting national championship games in history with the Huskies defeating the Boilermakers 75-60.
On the women’s side South Carolina finished the season with a perfect 35-0 record after defeating Iowa 87-75 in the national championship game. In its self were fantastic story lines with Iowa’s Caitlin Clark becoming the all-time leading scorer in Division I history for men or women with 3,951 points and entering the WNBA as the No.1 player.
South Carolina coach Dawn Staley, who has won the Naismith Coach of the Year award three years in a row, is now one of five coaches with at least three national championships. Yes this was a great season for college basketball. Now its time to lace up those cleats and get ready for some spring sports.
