District 15 State Rep. Randy Randleman, R-Eufaula, has announced he will not seek re-election in the fall.
First elected in 2018, Randleman has been plagued in recent years by health issues but he says that isn’t the reason he will not run again, it’s because his wife, Jennifer has her own health issues.
His announcement was made in his political column that appears elsewhere in this issue of the newspaper.
He states: “I want you to know that it is a privilege to serve House District 15 and the people of all five counties it represents.
“While I have undergone and survived cancer, a bone marrow transplant, shingles and five bypasses within the last three years, we have accomplished many tasks, which I’ll highlight in just a moment.
“I am thankful to report that today I am doing well and feeling healthy. However, my wife Jennifer is experiencing health problems. She re- cently had surgery, which was partially successful, but she is having problems with another vertebrae and is going to require other surgeries or medical procedures.
“Since my election to the House in 2018 and my later health concerns, Jennifer has taken on about a third of our businesses, which have been established for over 15 years. All three practices are still open today due to Jennfier’s ability to manage and me working every minute I am not at the Capitol.
“As a result of this, I am announcing that I will not be running for reelection later this year. I truly believe that God comes first, our family second, and then our businesses and public service come third.”
The Randlemans are psychologists.
