The Eufaula Ironheads started off with hard hitting at the plate as they took a 5-1 lead over the Wilburton Diggers for a 5-4 victory. The Diggers took an early 1-0 lead at the top of the first inning as Drey Franklin connected on a pitch for a double. However, the Ironheads came alive, scoring five runs in the first inning with Connor McAllister sending a pitch deep for a double on an 0-2 count that drove in three runs.
Dawson Hughes earned the win for Eufaula. He gave up just three hits on four runs over three innings, with no strikeouts and walk- ing two.
Draven Gragg, McAllister, Jaxon Lange and Taber Grider each collected one hit each. McAllister led the team with three runs batted in. Hayden Robinson and Luke Hodgins led Eufaula with two stolen bases each.
“I’m really proud that we were able to play well down the stretch and hold them to just four runs. We started off hot but Wilburton is a good team and we knew that they came to play. I’m really happy with Connor and the effort our team gave at the plate. We had some stolen bases that kept their pitcher busy. We will enjoy this one and get ready for Victory Christian this Monday,” Eufaula head coach Josh Luna said.
