Q and A with Pastor J.
Love is a tricky word. It has been used and abused so much we have a hard time understanding it. We love our pets, love our car, love our kids but do we love our community? The Bible teaches about the kind of love that He has for us. It is Agape love. The kind of giving, sacrificial love that has as its primary concern the well-being of others. Agape love is the foundation of our relationship with Jesus. It is a Spirit-filled love that motivates us to love like Jesus loves. In 1 Corinthians 13, the Apostle Paul gives us an amazing definition of love. He does not describe a feeling but a commitment to care for each other and the community at large.
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a.
Jesus shows his love for us by leaving His throne and coming to Earth to save us. It is amazing that the God of the universe would make His home with us, to live with us and to give His life for us! That is something to celebrate!
It is the mission of First Baptist Church to live this kind of love toward each other and our community. We just want to see our community transformed by the amazing love of Jesus.
