Bumgarner running again in Eufaula; Incumbent Farmer challenged in Checotah
Former Eufaula School Board member Kenny Bumgarner, 55, has filed for the upcoming Board elections.
Filing ended at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6.
Because none of the races in any of the school districts in McIntosh County has more than two opponents, there will be no need for a primary special election on Feb. 13, 2024, according to Election Board Secretary Janelle McKnight.
The general special election for the school board offices will be April 2, 2024.
Bumgarner had represented Office 5 for four years when he resigned in January 2022 because he moved out of the district. Jeanette Davis was appointed to replace him.
This time, he is running for Office 2, once held by Derek Gray who resigned in July. Former Office 2 board member Shirley Breedlove was ap-pointed to temporarily return to her old position to replace Gray but declined to run for the office.
Bumgarner will face Jessica Whisenhunt, 36.
Long-time Eufaula School Board President Jeff Pippenger drew an opponent with the filing by Meagan Beaver, 36, competing for Office 4.
In Checotah, only two candidates filed for School Board Office No. 4, incumbent Jackie Farmer, 69, and Denver Killingsworth, 43.
Schools in which only one candidate filed for office include: – Hanna, Office 4. Rachel Layman.
– Midway, Office 4. Incumbent Shelia Durrett, 56, of Council Hill.
– Ryal, Office 3. Incumbent Michael Winap, 65, of Henryetta.
– Stidham, Office 3. Ezekiel McIntosh.
