Q and A with Pastor J.
In the Gospel of John 8:12 Jesus says this about Himself – “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.”
This is the second of seven “I AM” declarations of Jesus, recorded only in the gospel of John. This passage points to Jesus’ unique divine identity and purpose. In declaring Himself to be the Light of the world, Jesus was claiming that He is the exclusive source of spiritual light. No other source of spiritual truth is available to mankind.
Jesus used the concept of light and dark in several passages. I believe that Jesus wants us to understand that without Him all is darkened. He came to bring light to eyes – to see Him as He truly is and light to the soul- so that we would believe in Him and be saved. If we accept His salvation, we also become His light in a weary, darkened world. We shine so that other people can see Jesus in us and follow Him.
I hope for you that the light of Jesus brings peace and joy to you as we celebrate the birth of our Savior – Jesus Christ.
