Students in Shelly Berry’s 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade classes had a mission to collect postcards from all 50 states. As the postcards flooded the classroom, students studied each state.
Worksheets included information about each state such as state bird, state flower, abbreviation and much more.
The class had an overwhelming response with 175 postcards representing all 50 states, including, the District of Columbia.
This unique project made it exciting for students to learn about the United States while having fun receiving the post cards.
“My students were able to do a virtual visit to every state. We learned through the postcards people sent and the letters and stories they told. We were able to mix the old with the new by incorporating the personal touch of mailed letters and then the research the students did on each state online,” said Mrs. Berry.
