Presenting the Evelyn Mynhier Food Pantry
By CHERYL CAMPBELL COURTESY,

Dedicated to Eufaula Lake VFW Post 8798 Auxiliary President

In 2020, life changed for most people we know because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Men and women who previously had secure employment lost jobs; some became homeless. People were seriously ill; many died. Times were harder than usual for all of us. One summer day a man stopped by the Eufaula VFW Post 8798 in search of nourishment for his body. Two of our auxiliary members searched through our kitchen cabinets for something that would feed him. The ladies were able to find a meager supply of food to help. When our members shared this incident with the president of the auxiliary, a plan was put into effect to bring items to keep on hand in case the need would again arise. We began bringing a few cans of ready to eat food. Other members were informed of what we were doing. Soon more joined us in our efforts.

An old cabinet was rescued from being sent to the landfill and filled with a few canned food items. It wasn’t long before that cabinet was overflowing. A larger cabinet was cleaned out, and we began to fill it with donated food.

After a while, this gentleman stopped in again to thank us for helping him in his time of need. He is back on his feet and doing well. Many have been the recipient of food from our pantry.

Generous members, volunteers, and patrons have donated food for our pantry from the beginning. Fulfilling the needs of those who are food deprived is a community service that we provide. Ask how you can help!

Later, we partnered with Eastern OK Food Bank and KIBOIS to provide a quarterly food drop for veterans in need, in addition to our food pantry.

Our priority is our veterans, but we will never turn away someone in need of nourishment. Caring for one another is what makes our 1community so special. If you are or know a veteran (or anyone) in need, please contact the VFW Post at 918-689-5577.

We will be giving Thanksgiving food boxes while supplies last. You must sign up for this giveaway by November 15.

Help us help others! If you would like to donate a Thanksgiving basket for someone in need, contact us!

A suggested list of pantry needs can be found on our Facebook page. Visit us at https://www.facebook. com/EufaulaAuxiliary Don’t forget to “like” us. If you would like to help, message us on our Facebook page.

We, the VFW Auxiliary, are here to serve our veterans, their families, and our community.
