Andy Avalos is out as Boise State’s coach after nearly three full seasons at the helm with a 5-5 record. Avalos’ firing came one day after the Broncos won in a blowout: a 42-14 defeat of New Mexico.
The Broncos were 10-4 last season and earned a trip to the Mountain West championship game but lost to Fresno State.
Penn State fires Mike Yurcich
Penn State fired Yurcich as its offensive coordinator as he joined the coordinator carousel yesterday with USC’s Alex Grinch. Yurcich was in his third season with the Nittany Lions, but frustration mounted after another ugly offensive performance in a 24-15 loss to Michigan. Yurcich was a prized target for James Franklin two years ago with assistant coaching experience at Oklahoma State, Ohio State and Texas.
