University of Tulsa head coach Kevin Wilson had the Golden Hurricane scoring at will in their 48-26 victory over Temple. TU quarterback Cardell Williams completed 14 of 17 passes for 244 yards and three touchdowns to lead Tulsa past the Owls in an American Athletic Conference opener Thursday night at H.A. Chapman Stadium.
Williams, a redshirt freshman, was Tulsa’s leading rusher against Temple as he had nine carries for 90 yards and a TD.
Tulsa (3-2) outgained Temple 533 yards to 313.
The Hurricane offensive line controlled the game as Tulsa had textbook balance 289 rushing yards and 244 passing. The Tulsa defense made the Owls one dimensional, limiting Temple to 44 yards on the ground and allowing 269 passing yards.
In the first half, Tulsa held a 197 to 143-yard edge in total offense. The Hurricane gained 6.1 yards per play, while the Tulsa defense held the Owls to just 3.4 yards per play. Williams completed 7-of-8 passes for 112 yards with three TDs.
Tulsa goes on the road next Saturday to take on the FAU Owls in Boca Raton, Fla., in a 5 pm (CT) kickoff.
