The McIntosh County Democrat, along with WISH (Women in Safe Home) and OKAware, will host their 2nd Annual Domestic Violence Awareness “Chalk Walk” on Monday, Oct. 16 from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. at the Checotah Sports Complex. This “Chalk Walk” is for anyone who has been a victim of domestic abuse and everyone who wants to support survivors. Participants are encouraged to wear something purple in honor of survivors and victims.
This is a community event and will include information on domestic violence and how this affects everyone in our community.
We encourage everyone to come out and “Chalk up the Walk” with encouraging words for our survivors and to take the domestic violence awareness pledge that states “I pledge to take action as an advocate for healthy relationships. I will believe survivors of relationship abuse, and amplify the voices of those who have been silenced. I will actively work against oppression and commit to being part of the change needed to create a community that is safe and just for every person.”
There will be food trucks and community games after the Domestic Violence Awareness Chalk Walk and everyone is encouraged to stay for fun, food and fellowship.
