Takes her former seat
In a twist of fate, former Eufaula School Board member Shirley Breedlove has been appointed to fill the seat vacated earlier this year by the resignation of Derek Gray.
Gray replaced Breedlove in 2017 after she declined to seek re-election in the 2016 race. She was board president at the time.
Breedlove was elected to the Seat No. 2 position in 2012.
Gray resigned in July, with several months left on his five year term.
School Board President Jeff Pippenger said that he had talked to several people about the position but given the fact that whoever is appointed would have to turn around and run for election in February, if there is an opponent, he suggested an alternative.
He made a motion for the board to appoint Breedlove who, he said, will not run for election.
The board voted unanimously to appoint the former board president.
