The Eufaula Ironheads have named the starting quarterback after Thursday’s scrimmage against the Warner Eagles. Sophomore Ledger Folsom will get the start this Friday against Vian. Folsom, 5’10”, 165-pounds, showed enough productivity to offensive coordinator Josh Luna and head coach Larry Newton to get the start.
The Ironheads displayed their stable of running backs against the Eagles. Peter Lee had three long runs that mirrored Barry Sanders.
On two runs it looked like everyone on the Warner team had at least two chances to tackle who danced through the defense. Freshman Koltyn Lane also had a big night. The 5’11”, 175-pound freshman had several great carries. Both Lee and Lane combine for a 1-2 punch for the Ironheads.
Warner’s quarterback made several long throws against the Ironheads’ secondary. On one play Maddox Bridges out jumped the receiver and pulled down the interception. The defensive line continued to show that they are a strong part of the team.
“We still have a lot of work in front of us. We made too many mistakes but this is the time to sort those types of things out. I thought we blocked well at times and gave our quarterbacks time to make their reads. We’re not allowed to hit the quarterback in this scrimmage so it took away from the pressure our defense can put on the quarterback. We will address those issues this week and get ready for Vian,” Eufaula head coach Larry Newton said.
The Ironheads’ receiving corps was productive. Kaden Rice made a couple of catches and Lee showed that he can catch the football in the flats and make defenses struggle.
Eufaula travels to Vian to take on the Wolverines at 7 p.m.
