Q and A with Pastor J.
Do you remember the old TV show “Cheers?” It was set in a bar in Boston and had a famous theme song. The theme was “Where everybody knows your name.” There was a guy on the show named Norm. Norm was an accountant who spent time in the bar to avoid life and his wife. Whenever Norm came into the bar everyone yelled out his name. Norm felt wanted and included. It is a shame that the only place he could find that acceptance was in a bar.
The Church should be the place where everybody knows your name. It should not be a place to hide, but to be loved. God created the Church so that His people could come together to worship. The Church is not a building, but a fellowship of people that love God and each other.
I believe that we need the Church now more than ever. We are bombarded with destructive messages from all sides and the Church is our refuge from the storm. It is a place to help instill values and character in our children. It is different because we gather with people who understand that life is a spiritual struggle. It is also different because the Church cares, treats you as a person not a customer.
Because we are different., we live God’s love as the Church. Ephesians 3:17-18 says, “And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ” I would like to invite you and your family to visit First Baptist Church.
